A severe thunderstorm was experienced in t.lk> Opotiki district last wo«k (says tlio Poverty Bay Herald), the flashes of lightning being exceptionally frequent and vivid. A thunderbolt descended at Paerata Ridge, striking* the chimney of Mr R. C. Luxton's residence. It smashed up about two feet of the upper portion of the chimney, and then struck the stove of the room in which Mr Luxton was sitting. Kettles and other utensils on the stove were scattered in all directions, and were battered and twisted almost beyond recognition. Mr Luxtan, who was sitting near the stove, had a narrow escape. The microbo moaned and wagged his tail, Threw up his eyes and sighed—"lf I should try to kill and fail. I'm down for suicide." He bit a larynx savagely, But Woods Great Peppermint Cure Came down and killed him instantly. And saved the patient sure.
