MOVEMENTS OF OCEAN-GOING STEAMERS. _ The Anglo-Bolivian, from New York, via Australian ports, arrived at Auckland on the 7th inet. The Karamea, from Montreal, via Australian and northern ports, arrived at Port Chalmers on the 7th inst. The Marere, from London, via Sydney, arrived, at Auckland on the 9th iiiot. The Arawa, from London, called at Hobart on the 10th inst., and, after landing 172 passengers for Australia, left for Wellington on the 11th Last, with 271 of her original passengers. The Rotorua, from Lyttelton, arrived at London tho 12th inst. The Waimate, from Montreal for N.Z. ports, arrived at Melbourne on the 13th inst. The Niwaru, from Liverpool, via Australian ports, arrived at Auckland on the 13th inst. The Kia Ora left Lyttelton for London on the 7th inst. The Kaikoura left London for N.Z. ports on the Bth inst, Wellington being the first port of call. The Pakeha, after taking in cargo at Port Chalmers, left for Lyttelton on the Bth inst., to continue her Homeward loading. Tho Wakanui left Auckland for Loudon on the 9th inst. The Muritai left London for N.Z. ports on the 12th inst., her first port of call being Wellington. The Athenic, from N.Z. ports (Wellington, April 20), called at Montevideo, and resumed her voyage to London on the 10th inst. - • The Karamea, after discharging inward cargo, took on board at Port Chalmers 12,371 carcases mutton, 70 casks tallow, 15 casks pelts, 11 cases casings, 123 bales~sheepskins, and 17 bales rabbi tskins. She left Jjpr Oamaru on the 10th inst to take in more cargo. .„ The Waiwera, for London, from N.Z. ports (Wellington, April 17), called at Montevideo, and continued her voyage on the 11th inst. " An Old Auckland Shipmaster " write* to a northern exchange as follows:—"II may interest the general public, as well at navigators, to know that, according to measurements of different charts, the Tasnian Sea is stretching. Tho distance from the North Cape to Sydney by careful measurements on the- Admiralty chart of 1877 was 1050 miles; in the Now Zealand Pilot of 1887 it was set down at 1086 miles; and on the Pacific track chart of 1897 it was put down as 1093 milos. By the latest Admiralty chart (1907) the distance is stated as 1105 miles, thus showing an increase In the distance of 55 miles during 30 yieara. Working tho distance out by Mercator sailing, it is now. as it was 30 years ago, 1089.3 miles. Now, which chart is correct?"
