The following paragraph from the London Daily Graphic is of interest to New Zeatancilers: —“The Secretary of State has consented to remove from the list of protected birds the little owl, scientifically known as * Cariue noctua ’ These birds were introduced into Northamptonshire by the late Lord Lilford, and have so multiplied os to become a serious nuisance. They prey on young game, and are very destructive to joung poultry." *
It is said that gambling at the Chinese pak-a-poo banks in Wellington is absorbing the attentions and earnings of a considerable number of Wellington workers, both adult and youthful. Mr John Bollard was on April 22 elected; a member of the Avondale School Committee for the fifty-first time in succession. He was afterwards re-elected I chairman, a position he has held for over 40 years.
