A burglary was reported to have occurred at an hotel at Thames early on Sunday morning. The cash register was rifled, a sum of between £9 and 1 £lO being taken. The police subsequently arrested two young men, one of whom confessed to committing the crime.
The Chinese residents of Napier, Taradale, and Hastings have forwarded a cheque for £4lßs as a donation to the Napier Hospital Board. The donation was accompanied by the following letter; —“Enclosed please find cheque for £4l Bs, being a collection received from the Chinese residents of Napier, Hastings, and Taradale. Wishing the hospital the success it desoives, believe us,’’ and then follow the signatures of 83 Chinese. Last year the Chinese contributed £3B 17s to the hospital funds.
