Smith) explained that a presentation was to have been made, but that tins would be forwarded later, as it had not come to hand in time for the retrial. During her stay at Hawea Miss Ewart had earned the respect and esteem of all, and genuine regret was felt at her departure. On behalf of the children of the

school a brooch was presented by Miss O. • onnolly, Mr Macarthur made a suitable acknowledgment ,cn Miss iawart’s behalf. Song's recitations were given by the school children and by the following ladies gentlemen:--Mrs Collings, Mrs Smith, Miss Gillespie, Miss Hansen, Miss Muir, and Messrs Templeton, Tregilgus, M'Hardie, and Macarthur For the dancing music was supplied by Miss M‘Lean. Messrs Connolly. Barclay, and Harley, and Mr B. Collings acted efficiently as M.C.’s. Miss Ewart left on the following morning to take up her duties as teacher in a northern town, and carries with her the best wishes of a wide circle of friends for her future success.
