THE CROPS.

CROPS IN TIMARU DISTRICT. TIMARU, April 14. While the grain crops on the lighter, shingly land are yielding well, other farmers find tJho output from the mills less than was expected.

THE CLUTHA CROPS. Our Balclufcha correspondent abridges the following- information from the Olutha Leader concerning cereal and root crops in and around the Clutha district: —Farmers have taken full advantage of the past fortnight's fine spoil, and the greater part of the grain crops are now stacked. Down Owaka way, however, a few of the crops are not yet ripe. About Toiro and Warepa " Loading in " has been completed, except for a few email .padocksi, and the hum of tho mills can be heard from all sides. On the Islaxid (Inch Clubha) there are still a few crops standing, but the builk is now stooked or in stack. Here tho sitooks and standing Crops have a discoloured, rusty look. In this district the turnips promise fairly well, but a good deal depends on favourable weather for root growth for the next six weeks. Up' to £ll an acre has been offered for turnip crops. In a. few of the other districts farmers coispJain that the turnips, and all root crops in fact, are seeding; but taking the outlook all round, and the abundance of straw and hay into consideration, it is improbable' that there will be a shortage of feed during tho forthcoming winter There are some excellent crops of oats at Clydevale. One paddock of Mr Snuahall's threshed out 110 bushels to the acre, and 70 and 80 bushel* is quit© an ordinary yield so far as the threshing has gone. The grain is a very fair sample. The grain traffio down river has now commenced in earnest. The steamer Clutha last week brought down the first shipment this season, 650 bags oat®, and on Wednesday this week brought down another load of 300 sacks oats and 150 bags chaff Judging by tho increased number of sacks going up there will be an enormous quantity of grain to come down this season.
