EMMELINE'S COSY CORNER CLUB.

THE 1912 SESSION WILL OPEN ON WEDNESDAY, MAY 29. In _ accordance with *he usual custom, the opening meeting -will be, in club parlance, A .MEMBERS' MEETING. Members choose their own topics, the only stipulation being that; the topic shall be one of general interest, and not exceeding in length 400 words. Quotations from a good author—name of book and author being attached—will be accepted from members who from- lack of time or other reason are unable to send in original work on this occasion. Papers to be in by May 15. Each member is asked to enclose on separate sheet a suggestion for a topic. Club meets June 26. Papers to be in by June 12. TOPIC: A DICKENS CENTENARY MEETING. The newspapers and magazines all over the world have been so full of reminiscences of Dickens, his life and work, during the period preceding his centenary that even faraway country members will have had ample opportunity of adding to their Dickens lore. And we all have some volumes at least of his works. I would certainly suggest that our pipers should be largely made up of quotation from Dickens's' books—quotations illustrating the characters one considers the best and most life-like in the volume chosen, or oiiotations' illustrating the purpose of the book. Club meets July 2-1. Papers must be in by July 10. TOPIC. The Labour unrest of the world, and how it affects, or is affected by, women. In other words, how. do wo women help or hinder the peaceful settlement of Labour questions? Club meets August 21. Papers must be in by August 7. A TRAVEL MEETING. Members will choose their own route and destination. Choice is entirely free But if any members have been fortunate enough to road any recent baoks on China or Russia, the two great countries which are undergoing such vital changes, I hope Ihey will so plan their journeys as to give us the benefit of their reading. Club meets September 18. Papers must bo in by September 4. THE SUGESTION MEETING. A selection will be made from the suggestions sent in for topics, and mombera will majke their choice from these. Club meets October 16. Papers must be in by October 2. TOPIC. A character study of a man or woman of any period who seems to you to have exercised a powerful influence on the history and public life of England. Club meets November 13. Papers must be in by October 30. Rctturne of the 1912 session of the club* with comments on topics and writers. Each member is also requested to send in a short i poem or prose extract on "Friendship."
