CHURCH OF ENGLAND MEN'S SOCIETY.
AUCKLAND, April 10. The third annual conference for New Zealand of the Church of England Men's Society was opened this afternoon. A large number of delegates were present from all parts of the Dominion, and the Bishop of Auckland presided. The annual report, which was presented bj' the Rev. Mr Russell (Oamaru), general secretary, she .ed that the society had flourished d ring the past vear, both in regard to increasing membership and the creation of new branches. The former had risen from 2' n 0 to 2300 and the latter from 111 to 131. A prospero s year was looked forward to. It was resolved that a committee be appointed to consider the advisability of engaging a travelling organising secretary, and to repi : to a later sitting of the conference. That a committee be appointed to consider what improvements can best be suggested in the organisation, time, and place of meeting of future conferences, and of the federation of branches for representation at the Dominion conferences. That the conference, de; hiring the prevailing indifference of men to public worship, earnestly calls tho church authorities to seek for reasons and remedies. That it be a recommendation to the bishops of provinces to appoint mission councils for undertaking systematic parochial mission work, especially among men.
