The first, annual meeting of the Otago Canary and Cage Bird Club was held on the 10th inst. Mr W. T. Talboys occupied the chair, and there was a good attendance of members. The following is a gist of the annual report:—The members have reason to congratulate themselves on the success of their efforts to form a club, and the stl £"# financial position tluey havo attained. Tho list of trophies is indeed a splendid one; all of which is due to the generosity of donors, thus saving the funds of the club. The thanks of the club are due to Messrs Binnie for the use of their premises in which the meetings were held until a suitable club room could be obtained. This has now been obtained, and it is hoped that members will take full advantage of the room. The young bird show, held in Sidey's Buildings, was a decided success in every way, and was the means of adding considerably to the funds of the club. The judging was in the capable hands of the president (Mr A. A. Binnie), and vicepresident (Mr C. L. Hunt), and general satisfaction was expressed at the decisions of these gentlemen. The British and foreign birds were not as well represented as might have been expeeted, and every endeavour should be made to create more enthusiasm in this section. The Chairman congratulated the club on having had such) a successful year, credit balance standing at £l3 5s 3d, and the membership at 40. In the course of his remarks, he urged members to be loyal, and to encourage as much as lay in their power the novices and junior members of the club.
