John J. Salto was a retired sea-captain, and thought he would make his remaining days more easy by investing his money in building houses. Of course, he wouldn’t take the builder’s advice, and they were put up, commanding a charming view, but high up on a hill, and difficult of access “Now, mo hearty.’’ said he to his confidential servant, “what shall 1 call them?” “Well,” replied the other, I should call them Gibraltar Buildings.” “Why over that, you lubber?” roared the old sea-dosr “Because ” said the man, “they say that Gibraltar will never bo taken, and, shiver my timbers, if these ever will be!”
