Much damage was done, including the destruction of approximately a quarter of a million mantle _ boxes. The building was insured for £SOOO in the Queensland office, and the Welsbach Company's stock for £7OOO, of which the State office has £SOOO and the Royal fixchange £2OOO. The Union Company's stores were insured for £4OOO in the various offices. INVERCARGILL, April 2. A fire occurred last night in the implement works of Messrs Searle and Co. and the Engineering Company, whose works adjoin, but it was promptly suppressed. Messrs Searle and Co. were insured in the Royal Company for £750, and their loss is estimated at £l5O. The Engineering Company was insured in various offices for £2750, but its loss »s only partial.
