PRESENTATION TO MR WALDEGRAVE.

WELLINGTON, April 3. There was a large gathering of the officers of the Department of Justice in the Magistrate's Court to-day to bid farewell to .Mr F. CJ. B. Waldegrave, who has retired from the position of Under-Secretary for Justice and Coramissioner of Police, and intends to proceed to England shortly. Mr 11. W. Bishop, S.M., Christchurch, presided, and among those present were the Prime Minister (the Hon. T. Mackenzie), the Minister of Justice (the Hon. J. A. Hanan), Dr M'Arthur. S.M., and Mr W. G. Riddell, S.M. A presentation was made by Mr Bis>hop, who referred to the high ideals of the retiring Undersecretary in administering his department, an-1 on behalf of the whole of the departmental staffs throughout the Dominion he lrinded to Mr Waldegrave a beautifully illuminated address, a gold chronometer, a gold sovereign case containing £lO (personally subscribed by Mr Bishop), and a suit case. The Prime Minister said Mr Wadegrave had been an ornament to the service, the high reputation of which ho had aided in building np. The Minister of Justice and Dr M'Arthur also added tributes to the valuable services rendered to the State bv the retiring Under-secretary. In acknowledging the presentation Mr Waldegrave said he had spent a very happy life in the service.
