RACING IN AUSTRALIA.

A.J.C. AUTUMN MEETING. First Day—Saturday, April 6. The autumn meeting of the Australian Jockey Club was opened to-day in fine weather. The track was in excellent order, and the attendance was very large. The following are the results; — FIRST HURDLE RACE, Of SCOsovs; second bOsovs and third 30sovs. About two miles. Mr E. On reaching the buck Trafalgar moved to tire front, followed by Eyeglass and Malt King, with the rest of the field well up. There was little change till the turn, at which stage Malt King was on terms with the leader. Trafalgar had a slight advantage coming into the straight, and a groat race homo ensued, the champion landing a victory by a nock, with Aurofodina eight lengths away. From a good start Sunliko, Volsloane, Popinjay, and Malt Pick! were the quickest to move, and when the field had fairly settled down Sunliko and Popinjay led. At the six-furlong post Sunliko and Popinjay wore clear of Desert Rose and Volsloane, with Blairgour and Lager next. Sunliko and Popinjay piloted lesert Rose, Volsloane, and Lager past the five-furlong post, and at the half-mile post the order was the same. Here Lady Medallist was observed for the first time, associated with Lager. There was no alteration as the horses came round the bend, except that Lady Medallist was closing on the leaders. Entering the straight Sunliko was still in the lead from Ladv Medallist. Alibi, and Lochano. At the distance Sunlike was done with, and Ladv Medallist looked like winning; but Lochano came with a groat rattle, and, wearing the first-named down, won by helf a length, with Kurnoll half a length further back. After a gap came Bright Laddie. Artesian, Golden Point. Sequarious, Malthusian, and Kuringai, with Wassail last. Time. Imin 40sec. A.J.C. ST. LEGER. The first to move wore Lady Medallist, and Aurofodina, but when the field were fairly going Lochano went to the front from Jolly Beggar, Ocean Blue. Cisco, and Danaus. As the horses ran past the judge's box Danaus was two lengths ahead of Lochano and Jolly Beggar, and then came Dorando, Flava. Cisco, and Gunboat. At the mile post Danaus was two lengths in advance of Lochano. Mashtun, and Cadonia, followed by Jolly Beggar. Flava. Dorando, Gunboat, and Lady Medallist. Round the back Danaus still led from Mashtun and Lochano. At the five-furlong post Ocean Blue ran through, joining Danaus, and the pair led by a couple of lengths from Medallist, Jolly Beggar, and Ocean Bluo. Danaus was first past the half-mile post from Jolly Beggar. Lady Medallist, and Aurofodina. Rounding the bend Jaeamnr ran into third place. At the distance the field was bunched Ocean Blue and Danaus then surrendered, and a great race ensued. Saxonite winning by three-quarters of a length, with Aurofodina half a length away.
