KAHUIKA.

March 30.—The weather during the past month has been very disagreeable and cold. Crops require hot weather to bring them on, as everything is backward on account of the wet. There are signs of a change for the better, so we ore still living in hopes. Town Hall.—Our new Town Hall is to be opened on Wednesday, and wo are hoping to have a good time. Personal.—l am sorry to have to record the illness of Mr M'Kenzie Hanning, one of our new settlers. He was one of the contractors for the new hall. On the clay ho finished he took ill, and was operated on in Dunedin Hospital. There- is every hope of his recovery. The sincere sympathy of the whole community goes out to him and his family. We all hope to see him bacK amongst us again very soon. During his short stav here he has proved an ideal pioneer settler.

Social and Pre c entation.—A basket party was given at the school on the 23rd to bifi farewell to Mr M'Kenzie, who has been working amongst the railway workers and settlers during the past five months as a missionary, and is now leaving to resume his studies at the University. During his stay amongst us he has endeared himself to all by his unselfish and manly bearing. Our missionary has endeavoured to let his light shine by his daily life, and the result is that his work is highly appreciated. Wo are all very sorry to part with him. He founded a Sunday school at Caberfeidh. which now numbers 28 children and also one at Kahuik.a numbering 22. The combined schools met at Kahuika on the 23rd to have their photographs taken with their teacher, when a fine set of brushes was presented to him by the scholars as a token of their esteem. A purse of sovereigns was also presented by tha railway workers, and all join in wishing Mr M'Kenzie. a bright, happy, and prosperous future
