April B.—The weather was all that could bo desired for the Easter holidays, and a large number of visitors arrived during the past few days. The regatta on Saturday was a huge success. Cricket.—A match was played at Arrowtown on Good Friday between Queenstown and Arrow teams, 12 men aside. Queenstown, batting first, made 116 (C. Lewis 26, J. Forbes 19, Bloomfield 16, and A. M‘Dowall 15). Arrow had made 227 for the loss of seven wickets at tho time fixed for drawing stumps. Dr Thomson (retired) 114, Fletcher 43, R. M'Dowal! 20, and Perrelle 17 were the principal scorers. Arrow won by four wickets and 111 runs. Personal.—The sad news was received in Arrowtown on Saturday last of the death at Ternuka of Sister Benezette, who had been one of the teachers at St. Joseph’s Convent, Arrowtown, for tho past eight years.—Miss Craig, who has acted as postmistress at Glenorchy for the past few years, and has recently resigned, was entertained by the Glenorchy residents at a social last week. During the evening Miss Craig was the recipient of a very handsome presentation, consisting of a solid silver afternoon tea service, a silvermounted oak tray, and a purse of sovereigns. Mr A. Fraser, in making the presentation, referred to the very efficient and obliging manner in which Miss Craig had always carried out her duties. Ho was glad she was not leaving Glenorchy, and that she would still bo with them, socially if not officially. Mr George Reid replied on behalf of Miss Craig.—lt is intended to banquet Mr W. Fraser, M.P., in Queenstown at an early date. Several members of the Reform party, including Mr Massey, will be present. Oratorio.—The combined choirs of the Queenstown and Arrowtown Anglican Churches, under the baton of the Rev. H. Packe, rendered Dr Stainer’s oratorio, “The Crucifixion,” in the Athenaeum Hall, Arrowtown, on Thursday evening, and in St. Peter’s Church, Queenstown, last evening. At Arrowtown tho tenor solos were rendered by Mr Colin Gray (Dunedin) and the bass by Mr D. R. Barron. At Queenstown tho soloists were Mr Blenkinsopp, Dunedin (tenor), and Mr A. J. Boot, Dunedin (bass).
