EQUIPMENT OF THE NORWEGIAN' COMPANY. (Fnou Ova. Own Cobbespowdent.) INVERCARGILL, March 28. The syndicate of Norwegians trading under the name of the New Zealand Whaling Company, which proposes shortly to begin operations in southern latitudes, will have a very complete and up-to-dato plajit at its command for the catching, towing, and filial disposal of the whales. The fleet wilL consist of the steamer Rakiura, 5750 tons, specially fitted with a, trying-ow* plant, and the Prince (Jeorgo, a. sailing vessel" of 2900 tons dead weight, also fitted with a trying-out plarfit and manure factory. In addition there will be two cargo whale steamers specially dosigned for the oatohing and towing of whales to the trying-out vessel, and two smaller steam whaleboats, built and equipped for the sa.rno purpose. The manager of the company, Mr L. H. Hasle, wrote to to-day's meeting of the Bluff Harbour Board inquiring as to port) charges in the event of his boats visiting Bluff for coals, stores, and provisions, also with whale oil for transhipment Home. The board decided to draw the company's attention to the act, wherein vessels engaged in the whaling industry are made exempt from berthage dues. It was resolved to point our that, in the event of heavy shipping movements ut the port, the whaling ships would, require to anchor in the channel until such time as sj>aco was again available alongside the wharf.
