TARRAS.
October 14.—The weather has been very changeable of late. One day. we have sunshine and the next probably it blows quite a gale. We look forward to having some fine weather after this month. The Farm.—The paddocks are all looking green now, and a considerable amount of lea ground has been turned over this spring for turnips. The autumn-sown crops are looking their best, especially the cats, but most of the farmers want rain, as the spring crops are at a standstill. Stock are all doing well now, there being an abundance of feed. The runholders should have forward a good clip this season. ', Roads.—The grader lias gone over all the roads here, widening some places, and filling in all the d'ltches, and we can toast now of - having the best roads in the county. The grader is proceeding to Hawea, and is. widening the roads as it goes. The Lindiß bridge is to be widened to allow motor cars to cross. I think tho county could have used she money to better advantage by spending it on the Quegrsbury chaiir. A light footbridge should be erected, or a new and up-to-date chair put on, as the one in use is very nearly done.
Football.—The local football team suffered defeat at Pembroke, when they met the Wanaka team on the latter's ground. The Tarras team was not at all a strong side, but nevertheless they put up a good defensive frame, and were only defeated by the small margin of 2 points. The team was entertained at dinner, and on the Sunday morning the visitors went for a trip up the lake to Glendbu Bay and Crab Island.
Sickness. —The mumps have been very severe in this district, and most of those affected had to go to the hospital under the doctor. Mr S. Munro had a very severe attack, but his many friends will be pleased tc hear he is progressing favourably.
