DR MAWSON'S EXPEDITION
LONDON, October 11. The King has had conveyed to Mr Ernest Joyce, zoologist, who is starting to-morrow to join the Australian expedition, his best wishes for the explorers' success, their good health, and safe return. H.:s .Majesty expressed the keenest interest in the work of the expedition. BEISBANE, October .13. The Premier told a deputation which asked for financial '"assistance for the Mawson Antarctic expedition that he could not entertain the idea of the Government contributing to the fund. The finances of the State were unable to bear any extra strain.
