DEFENCE OF AUSTRALIA.
LONDON, September 27. Lady Reid {wife of the High Commissioner fox the Commonwealth) will christen the battleship cruiser Australia on October 25. The Admiralty has accepted tenders for the machinery of the cruiser Brisbane, and is now preparing tenders for the material for the hull.
