At Addington there were moderate entries of stock and a good attendance. Beef was firm at last week's rates. Store sheep showed no material chairge. Fat lambs were easier, and fat sheep sold at an advance oh last week's prices. Fat' pigs were .weaker in demand and price. There was a fair demand for store cattle, and good dairy oorws sold well. The yarding of store sheep was a small one,, and mostly medium sorts. Ewe hoggets sold at a little improvement. Wethers were somewhat firmer," and there was a good demand for ewes and lambs. The better classes of ewe hoggets sold up to 14s 7d; smaller, 12s 4d; mixed sexes, lis 7d to 12s 9d; full-mouth ewes and lambs, 8s 7d to 9e 7d (all counted); halfbred wobhers, 12s lOd to ISs Bd. There were 102 fat lambs penned, a number of which'were small. Owing to the increased numbers offered the competition was not so keen, and prices were easier. The better sorts made 15s to 21s, and smaller 9s to 14s 3d. A small yarding of fat sheep was made up, principally of Southland and North Island consignments. There was a rise of fully Is per head as compared with the preyious week in consequence of the supply being short. The range of prices was: Extra prime wethers, to 325; prime, 21s 6d to 265; -others, 18s to 21s; extra prime ewes to 31s od;. prime, 18s od to 23s 6d; others, 14s 8d to 18s; hoggets 14s lOd to 26s 9d; merino wethers, 17s od to 21s Id; extra, to 22s 9d. The supply of beef comprised 198 head, and a large proportion consisted of prime quality animals. The demand for this class was keen, and last week's high rates were fully maintained. Steers made £7 10s to £11; extra, to £ls 7s 6d; heifers, £6 to £10; extra, to £l3 ss; cows, £5 2® 6d to £9; extra, to £l2. These prices were equal to 30s to 35s for prime to 40s for extra", 26s to 29s for medium, and 25s to 25s 6d for cow and inferior per 1001 b. The entry of veal calves was made up chiefly of smaJL sorts, and they sold at_ 4s '6d to 50s, one well-finished yearling making £5 :ss. . . There was a fair entry of store cattle, and a good demand for the larger sorts. Yearlings made 30s to 36s 6d; 15 to 18 months, £2 5s to £2 7s 6d; two-year-old steers, £3 3s to £3 15s; two-year-old heifers, £3 12s to £3 five-year-old steers, £5 2s to > £5e 7d 6d; four-year-old heifers, £4 5e to £4 6s; dry cows,..£l to £5 7s 6d. Good dairy cows were in demand, prices ranging from £3 10s to £ll 10s. The yarding of fat pigs showed an increase in numbers, and prices were consequently easier. ChoptDers made £2 10s to £5 7s; heavy baconers, £3 to £3 15s; lighter, £2 7s 6d to £2 15s (equal to s£d to sgd per lb); large porkers, £1 17s 6d to £2 ss; smaller, £1 10s to £1 15s (equal to sgd per lb). Store pigs were also entered in lar?e numbers, and they met with a fair demand, several outside buyers being present. Large sorts made £1 4s to £1 8s; medium, 18s to £1 3s; smaller, 12s to 15s; wea/iers, 8s 6d to 12s od. SOUTHLAND MARKETS. CFboM OUB OWH COBBESPOXDEMT.) INVERCAROILL, September 30. Stock.—There has been a fair amount of business passing in stock during the past week. Fat cattle remain at about 30s to 31s per 1001 b. The advance in prices anticipated all along the line % for the last Wallaoetown sale did not come. Any pens, of decently finished stuff, however, were in good demand, but this class has been all too. rare for a good number of sales past. There is a bit of a flutter in fat wethers, the price having jumped in a few days from 3gd to 4d per pound. At the yards on Tuesday the entry was pretty mixed, and any prime butchers' sheep were eagerly competed for up to 22s 6d. No fat ewes to speak of, are in the market, but any for sale are eagerly competed for. One line of good stuff realised 16s 7d at the last sale. The market for stores has not undergone any appreciable < change in prices, although there is distinct evidence of a better inquiry. In another two or three weeks we should see a good number of farmers stocking up their usual shearing requirements. Prices for the past week

ANNUAL SPRING HORSE SALE. Messrs W right, 'Stephenson, and Co. report as follows:—Following on our thirtieth annual sale of. Clydesdale stallions, we held on Friday our speciai sale of draught maires andi geldingsWe had a fair entry—7s head in all—of good working horses, both mares and geldings. Owing to the continued operations of Australian exporters, we had very fewpedigreed mares and fillies on offer, the bulk of the entry being made up of ordinary working horses. Consequently we have no specially high puces to record.. At the same time, with a capital attendance of buyers, we experienced a brisk sale for good, young, sound horses at highly satisfactory prices. The chief demand was for well-bred draught mares and f.llies from three to six years old, of good substance, and for heavy young geldings from four to six years old sui table for shafting and town work. For aged and stale horses the demand was not so keen, still a large number changed hands at very satisfactory prices. The highest price was received for a nice quality mare belonging to Mr H. Small, Asliburton, which, after spirited competition,..was knocked down to Mr W. R. Gavvn, Mosgiel, at 60gs. For the same vendor we sold another mare at 36ggs.
