MURDER CHARGES.

CONVICTION QUASHED. LONDON, September 29. The Court •of Crinimal Appeal has quashed the sentence on Ellsom for murdering his sweetheart at Clerkenwell on the 18th of August, on the ground that the evidence of the principal witness required corroboration. This is the first time that a capital conviction has been set aside. The - name of the murdered woman was Rose Pender, a refreshment-house employee. She was wounded about the heart, head, and body. An oilman who has premises in the street in which the murder was committed, heard a woman exclaim: "Don't, Charlie, .don't," followed by screams. Elsie is ;the fourth member of the Crawford family to die under mysterious circumstances. Within 14 months the father, mother, and another sister died suddenly. Annie was a beneficiary in the policies on the lives of the deceased.
