DUNEDIN COMPETITIONS SOCIETY.

A meeting of the committee of the above society was held in Mr E. S. Wilson's board room on Thursday evening; present —Dr Roberts (in the chair), Messrs S. Solomon, J. W. Smith. F. .1. Stilling, F. G. Duncan, J. J. Clark, W. Thomson, and R. A. Ewing. Apologies for nonattendance were received f'rom Messrs Hv F. Moss, A. C. Hanlon, and J. H. Walker. A 'letter was received asking if costumes and accessories would be permitted in the dialogue " School for Scandal." It was resolved that the committee could not accede to the request" this year, but that it would consider this natter in future years. The Secretary submitted a list of the entries received for this- year's festival, and reported that this constituted a record' entry, in the history of the society. The entries in all sections are exceedingly gratifying, with the exception of the choir contest, for which only two entries have been received-. The- following honorary judges were appointed to officiate at the festival: —Essay — No. 1 Mr'J. Hutchison, No. 2 (a) Miss Oulverwell, No. 2 (b) Mr C. Darling; Scripture essav, Rev: Graham Balfour; original storv", Dr Marshall Macdonald; original poem, Mr D. W. M. Burn; impromptu speech, Messrs J. B. Callan, jun., and F. H. Gampbell; impromptu debate, Dr Marshall and Brother Brady; drawing, Mrs and Miss Joachim; modelling, Mr R. Haweridge; calisthenics, Mr W. H. Matthews; comedietta, Mr Barrington Waters.
