A FOOTBALL FATALITY.

YOUNG MAN DIES FROM INJURIES. A fatality as a result of play on the football field is of rare occurrence, but unfortunately-an accident happened on Saturday afternoon which had a fatal ending- ' r u Stuart Robertson, 21 years of age, who was playing for the Zingari-Richmond Second Grade team against Southern B, on Montecillo grr/and, sustained injuries during the progress of the game winch necessitated his removal to his home. He complained of being ill, and when Dr Williams saw him be ordered that he should be taken to the Hospital. This was done,' but the young fellow died yesterday morning, the supposed cause of death being a lacerated kidney. ;■ . John Mahoney, an iron moulder residing at 30 Oxford street, South Dimedm, captain of the Southern team, states that during the game Robertson was knocked down, and play was stopped. Robertsqn got up and walked away, and putting his hand to his groin said, "I got a bump. here. I think I got it from someone's knee. When he was going off he said he would be all right in a few minutes. He hung about for a little while, and then went to the dressing room, and on being seen after the game he said he did not feel very well. He walked outside the door and said ho thought his iribs were broken, but on examination his ribs were found to be all right. A depression was, however, observed in his groin and he was advised to seo a doctor, but lie again said ho would soon be all right. Henrv Torrance, captain of the ZingariRichmond B team, states that Robertson resumed playing in the second swell, and remained on" the field a little while, when ho said he did not feel veary well and went off the ground. The young man resided with his parents on the Anderson's Bay read, South Dunedin.

It is a singular and painful coincidence that Donald Robertson, the brother of Stewart Robertson, was also injured on Saturday in the senior grade match between Zingari-Richmond and Kaikorai. He is supposed to have sustained a fracture of the collarbone. He called at the Hospital for treatment, and is to present himsel again to-day for further examination.
