PROHIBITION CAMPAIGN.
MR POOLE AT CTERISTCHURCH. (Fbom Our Ows Correspondent.) CHRISTCHURCH, May 12. The national prohibition campaign now being conducted in Christohurch by Mr C. H. Poole, M.P., has not "caught on." So far it has attracted very little publio attention. There was only a small .attendance a last night's meeting, and before Mr Poole commenced his address _ Mr Payne, organiser for the Prohibition League, made an appeal for financial sup. port. He said the funds for the campaign were at present in a low state. He also expressed disappointment at the smallness of the attendance, which he considered an indication of apathy on the part of the Christchurch public. Mr Poole said he did not regard the small attendance as any sign of apathy among the people. It was very early in the campaign yet, and he Ead seen other causes with apparently no greater enthusiasm at that early stage carried to a triumphant conclusion when the time came for it. He expressed the opinion that the outlook in New Zealand generally was good.
