DAILY TIMES MUTUAL PROVIDENI SOCIETY.
The annual meeting of the Otago . Daily Times Mutual Provident Society was hold in the company's library on Wednesday., October 26. Mr James Abernethy (picsidont) occupied tho chair, and the attendance wad ropres2ntative of all tin' departments. In moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, the Chairman fiaid that the most notaworhv event in the past year was the extension of the society's usefulness by the addition of an endowment .scheme, which was tx-ing- contributed to by the Dailv Tim-os Company, a.s well a.s by the individual members of the society. Mr Abernethv detailed the various steps loading up to"the addition of the above *cheme, and expressed great satisfaction thai, the efforts of the committee had been so well supported by tho members. Special thanks was also due to the Daily Times Company for its generous support and continued interest in the work of the society. Twentyfive new members joined during the year, bringing the total membership up to almost 100—perhaps the largest in the history of the society. During the year tho society had again established its claim for the support of all the employees by disbursing £94 15s lOd in sick-pay. During the 32 years of the society's existence it had paid £1993 in sick-pay to members, which was extremely creditable. The financial position of the society was good, and it was pleasing to note that there* were no arrears of subscriptions. The amount standing to tho credit of members, at the end of September, 1909, was £231 9s ICd; but this year, with the addition of the new endowment scheme, the amount was £-"37 8s sd.—(Applause.) Mr It. Page (vice-president) seconded tho motion, which was carried unanimously. The society was registered during the year under the Friendly Societies Act, and in order to conform to tho requirements of the act several rules were amended and others added. The following were elected office-bearers for the ensuing year: —President, Mr It. Page; vice-president, Mr F. Waite; secretary, Mr M. W. Johnson; treasurer, Mr W." Dow; committee—Messrs Ferguson, Harvey, Handley. Murray, and Taylor;
auditors, Messrs Jos. Aborr.ethy and A, Wilson. Votes of thanks to the retiring officer! were passed with acclamation.
