Two Australian greyhounds arrived in the Dominion on board the Uhmaroa at the Bluff on Monday. On© was a six-year-old bitch, "Snow-girl (by Wo nit—Lady Lawrence), on its way to Auckland; the other was a 21-month-old dog, Western Star (by Senator—Southern Star), imported by Mr J. Vickery, of Invercargill. T. Burrows established a new world's record in clubjswinging at the King's Theatre, Fremahtle, on October 8, swinging continuously for 75 hours 30 minutes. Burrows will shortly meet Lawson in a clubswinging content at Perth. A BILLIARD CHAMPION. LONDON, October 28. George Gray, the Australian youth, challenges Melbourne Inman or any other player to a game of 18,000 level, for £SOOO. The sum of £SO has been deposited by Gray with Sporting Life. MIDDLE-WEIGHT CONTEST. SYDNEY, October 26. Papke, the world's middle-weight champion since Ketch-el's death, fought Williams (Victoria's middle-weight champion) in the Stadium to-night. There were 12,000 spectators. The title was involved. Papke won in five rounds, Williams having absolutely no chance. THE TOURNAMENT QUESTION. At a meeting of the executive of the Caledonian Bowling Club last evening it was decided to strongly disapprove of the action of the council of the association- in refusing to .pass the orocramme of the Christmas tournament presented by the Dunedin Centre, seeing that at the annual meetings of the various clubs in tihe Dunedin Centre an overwhelming majority w*a in favour of a Christmas tournament. The executive of the Caledonian Club desired to point out that in the event of the council refusing to graint a programme for a Christmas tournament at Christchurch in December, 1911, the same trouble -might arise with the bowlers in that district, and suggested that the annual tournament controlled by the association should be held it Christmas each year, thus meeting- the wishes of the majority of bowlers. At a meeting of the executive of che North-East Valley Bowline Club last night the following motion was carried :—"That this executive endorses the action of the Dun-odin Centre in applying to the New Zealand Bowling Council for permission to hold a Christmas -tournament, and hereby instructs its delegates to support the same in_ caraoliancu with fciua uiahasi of the mem-

ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY .The ordinary monthly meeting of the executive of tihe Otago Acclimatisation Society, held on Friday afternoon, was attended by Messrs T. Brown (chairman), R. Forrest, J. Edgar, R. Rutherford, A. M'Cairthy, A. E. Farquhar, R. Rrinsley, A. E. Jenkins, G. W. M'lntosh, A, Cowie, and C. P. Butterworth. REPORTS. Mt Deans, manager, reported that diatribution hid been commenced in acoordance with the list submitted to the Angling Committee, and, as this promised to be a dry season, the sooner they were out the better. In reference to his previous report -on the pollution of the Leith by the Paper Mills, he now found that the manager had no alternative at the time, as the Drainage Boacrd'a sewor was under construction on his company's pipe line. With reference to Mr Dooly's request for the removal of barriers recently erected at the outlet of the Tomahawk Lagoon, the ✓weir was put in with a view to keeping up the supply of fresh water, and keeping out salt water. There were signs of sewage from the city having entered the lower lagoon at high water. Mr Dooly was agreeable to let the weir remain in the meantime. Anglers were getting some fine fish in the Lagoon.--Received. Mr J., Steven, ranger at the Clinton hatcheries, reported that owing to want of a trap he had been unable to make a start with the distribution of young fish. Now that the trap had arrived the distributing list had not. Some of the boxes at the upper hatcheries were overcrowded. — Received. The Game Committee's report dealt with the allocation of blocks to stalkers in order of priority, and stated that it was inadvisable for stalkers to shoot over the sarnie blocks year after year. They should be changed round.—Received and approved. No Angling Committee's report was submitted. CORRESFONDEXOE. Dr W. Robertson' (Tapanui) wrote, on the understanding that the society was bringing out a buck, su;jg«>ting that as the local residents were supplying the ground for a keep, the society should provide the fences. —Referred to the Game Committee. The Hon. Secretary of the Wyndham Anglers' Association wrote asiking if the society would care to present a gold medal as a trophy in connection with the Wyndham Association's competitions for the best aggregate during the season. —Society regrets it cannot see its way to comply. A. Stephenson, Linvingstone, Rhodesia, wrote thanking the society for copies of rules, which had proved most useful to his budding club, which had, at last, proved the possibility of hatching ova after they had been carried for five days by parcel post They were trying to interest the Government for next season's work. —Writer to be thanked for his letter. GENERAL. It was resolved that the Game Committee bo allowed the serv'oes of Banger Beck for one month at Clinton. Accounts amounting to £24- 15s were passed for payment.
