Shepherd Lad is a bay" horse bred by Walter Blaikie, Esq., Ryal Bush, Southland, with plenty of bone and hair of the right quality. He is the winner of a great number of prizes, having been champion horse of Southland for several years. His stock prove him to be absolutely the best breeding Horse in the Dominion, as he is the sire of Nelly Gray, champion mare of Southland for years; Daisy Be.ll, champion mare of Oamaru and Dunedin shows; Queen Agg, champion mare of the North Island; also Aparima Fancy, and scores of others —in fact, almost all the prize-winning animals throughout the South Island' last year were either by Shepherd Lad or out of mares got by Shepherd Lad. Shepherd Lad's sire, Herd Laddie (imp.), from Scotland to Victoria, and thence to New Zealand, is one of the best breeding j horses ever imported. Shepherd Lad's dam, Maggie M'Cormick, was a champion showyard mare, being beaten only by her daughter, Queen, a half-sister to Shepherd Lad. Maggie M'Cormick and Queen were sold to the late Mr Walter, of Victoria, and Queen, after several times winning the championship of Victoria, was generally admitted to be the best stamp of a Clydesdale mare seen F.outh of the line. At the late- Mr Walter's dispersal "sale on March ;>3, 1904, Maggie M'Cormick. the dam of Shepherd Lad. then in her sixteenth year, brought 250ga, and her yearling filly 230 gs. Shepherd Lad is a very sure foal-getter, and he again proved very successful with his miares last season. He will serve a limited number of mares only; so early application is neceesary (as last season he had to refuse a number of mares). Terms: £3 Bs, half guarantee; £4 4s at the end of the season and £4 4s when the nrare proves in foal. Groomage, ss. Good grass paddocks provided for mares at 2s 6d per week, and all care taken, but no responsibility. Owners of mares at first service held responsible.
