(From Our Own- Correspondent.) October 29. O. Pritchard leaves for Christehureh on Saturday with Penates, Naumai, Gold Bird, and Hvdrant, The same trainer s team for Masterton consists of Penza, Laros, and Rangikapua. , When Polymorphous' withdrawal From the New Zealand Cup was announced Oliver was offered the mount on Sundstveam. Bliss, Sandstrcam, and Aorangi were taken south on Tuesday. Ruaparaha and Kilsyth, members of X. Porter's Hutt team, until recently trained in the Gisborne district, will be seen out at the Masterton meeting this week. J. H. Pressor leaves for the south toi.ight with the Porirua team, eight in number. It was intended to take Turna, but Mr Whitney's colt has developed signs of soreness. . . The committee appointed by the Racing Conference to consider the Auckland Racing Club's application for the removal o, the disqualification imposed upon Louis Harris in connection with the Hoirarch case unanimously agreed to remove the disqualification as from the 31st inst. R. S. Henrys writes your correspondent from Manda that he is doing well there. He is applying to the Masterton Club for the removal of his disqualification. Gold Crest is getting- a fair chance at the stud. Waipuna (dam of Wavtapu, Waipake, and other performers) and flotilla visit him this season. He does duty at his owner's (Mr J. R M'Donald s) station at Levin. The brood mare Aimce Soult, owned by Mr J H. Pressor, recently sustained injuries at Levin which necessitated her destruction. Twenty-five entries were received for ttie New Zealand Trotting Club Cup, two miles. • Wildwood Jun. is en scratch, the limit being 8 seconds. Mr Were Rewene will bo again represented at Riccarton in the Electric Plate by the Concmeror gelding Naumai. The same owner has left St. Bees in the -Auckland Guineas, and is thinking of sending the St. Ambrose colt u;> for that race. He is trained by F. Carmont, at Levin. Sir Frisco showed signs of muscle soreness since racing at Trentham, and has been eased up in consequence. A. Attwood, the Feilding trainer, will be represented at the Masterton meeting by Aotea, Te Ru, and Howler. October 28. The Masterton Racing Club's spring meeting opened to-day in splendid weather, which was responsible, for the attendance being above the average. There were five runners for the Hurdles, which was about as satisfactory as most of these contests at small meetings. The Feilding stable presided over by A. Atwood started two—Te Ru (ridden by W. Young) and Howler (ridden by H. Futcher). The Napier (Park-trained Sleacombe (Birkenhead—Aphrodite) winner of a maiden hurdle race at Marton, scored with little to spare from Te Ru, who came fast at the finish. Rosegrovo has been having a lot of it "since the season opened, and could only 1 get third. Tina Toa, a winner at Napier Park, and stable mate of Sandstrcam, was always at a short price for the Hack Flying. He was ridden by A. Oliver, and was unlucky to bo beaten. He was on the rails, and could not get on his legs, getting blocked in. He did not get out until halfway down the straight, where he put in some long strides, but just failed to reach Rill (San Fran—Spring), a winner at Rangitikei and half-sister to Mahuta. It was no disgrace for Tina Toa to be beaten by Rill, at a difference of a stone. The latter will have to put up 101 b penalty in the Wairarapa Guineas, in which British Mai<l (101 b penalty) and Waikehua (runner up to St. Virtus at Hastings) should run well. Mr M'Manaway, who owns Rill, formerly •resided in Carterton, but did not come down from Hunterville to see his horses race. He won the gentlemen riders race with Strathmoira. (Soult—Hakea) a winner at Napier Park. Ridden by D. Buick, jun., he carried 12.8, and beat a better field than is usually seen out in this class of race. The field included the Hawke's Bay horses Whakaweira. (Pilgrim's Progress—Espaniola) and Bovne Water (Birkenhead—Water. babv). Sir Antrim, runner-up to Lady Medallist at, Trentham, was considered the best of -Things for the Cup. W. Young rode him rather short, and he took a lot out. of the horse trying to keen him back to the field. Ruaparaha worried him the last two furlongs, and at the distance had the favourite beaten. Hatch then rushed Iranui through on the rails, and scored cleverly. Tho Soult mare looked fresher than she has dons for some time. M. Ambrose appears to understand her.

The Rorer (Advance— Polly Perkins), a stable mate of Sir Antrim's, was made favourite for the Maiden, but could only get, third to Longwcod (Mcniwsc— Spoil). L. Traill rodo Longwcod, and also ccored on her stable mate Longstep (Stepniak— Good Intent) in tho Dash Hack Handicap. * The Officer gelding Full Rate showed some of his old-time daeh in the Publican's Handicap, seven furlongs. He is now owned by Mr R. Cooper, a local settler, and was ridden by S. Reid, who used to ride him when he ran in Mr Foreman's colours. Penza and Clemora were both backed, but could not get near Full Rate, who secured a break. Merrivonia and Llanwern both ran badly in the Cup, and the first-named can have little chance at Riccarton. W. Young will ride Sandstrcam. His connections are confident of .success on the strength of a satisfactory gallop of a mile and a-half before leaving home. The performance of First Consul (Conqueror—Lady Principal) in the October Hack Handicap was probably the best so far registered. He had to do his best to catch and beat Auha (San ' Fran—Rain). Captain Bell was backed, but could only get third. Lady Doris, runner-up to Longwood, did the host of Attwood's team.
