THE PART OF THE CHURCHES. (FBOM OUB OWN COBBESFOXDENT.t WELLINGTON, October 28. A return asked for by Mr Buxton in reference to the number of licenses for art unions issued during the last fiva years was laid on the table of the House to-day. From 1906 onward the total number of licenses issued each year werft as under, the number issued to churchesbeing given in oa.renthesis : —276 (79). 219 (58), 243 (65), "237 (62). 319 (79). This gives total of 1294 licenses issued, of which total 344 .were issued to churchee. In all 71 vrere ? issued to the Church ol England 1 , 251 to the Roman Catholia Church, five to the Presbyterian Church, and one to the Wesleyan, Church. Th« destinations of 15 licenses are not stated.,
