THE GOVERNOR'S RESIDENCE.
FAULTY DRAINAGE INVESTIGATIONS. WELLINGTON. October 29. A statement in regard to the faulty drainage at Government House was elicited from the Prime Minister last evening by Mr A. L. Herdman, who asked the Prime Minister if he could make a .statement regarding the position of the drainage at Government House. Officers of the City Council and the Government had, he understood, been making investigations at the Governor's residence in regard to faulty drains, and if the Prime Minister could give any information it would be of value. The Prime Minister said the position was that instructions had been given to have the drainage at Government House examined right through, and the _ work was now being carried out. Whilst it was in progress, it was thought inadvisable that the Governor or his family should reside there. A report would probably be in readiness in about 10 days or a fortnight. Mr Massey asked if fire-extinguishing appliances had been provided at Government House. The Prime Minister said there were appliances outeide, and it was proposed to put them inside as well. He might add also tbat the house was insured.
