COURSING

DUNEDIN CLUB'S MEETING. The August meeting of the Dunedin Plumpton Coursing Club was commenced »n Friday at Forbury Park in beautiful weather, and before an excellent attendance. The plumpton provided splendid going, and the hares, which had been obtained from Rangitata, proved a very game and strong lot, and provided some very good coursing. Mr P. H, Power, the club's secretary, had all the arrangements working without a hitch, and received able assistance- from the president oi the club (Mr P Aitken) and the nress steward (Mr R. W. Price). The slipping .vas ..". tho hands of Mr M. Quirk, whose work was of an excellent standard throughout, while the judge (Mr T. Kett) gave his decisions with the greatest promptitude The following are the results of -the first two rounds of the WAIRONGOA CUP, For an unlimited number of all-aged dogs, at. £2 10s each. —Winner, £3O and silver cup (presented by Messrs Thomson and Co., cordial manufacturers), also purse of sovereigns donated by Messrs Pollock and others; rurfner-up, £l2 10s; third dog, £5; two dour, each £2 10s; and four dogs at £2 each. Pay Day was too fast for Sweet Ala on the run to a strong hare, and had almost | undisputed possession until he drove to cover. Comet showed out a couple cf lengths I to Maori Queen to the first turn, and held j til! he drove to the latter, who 1 killed. j On Guard raced away six lengths from Queensbury to a fast hare, which pave but a couple cf turns before escaping to cover, j Salute held an advantage of several j lengths from Lady Ward, who drove to cover from the first turn. In the run up Lady Elizabeth held a Strang lead from Unexpected, and drove 1 a strong hare to ihe escapes immediately i after. Turakina hung in the slips, Sleevelink racing away. Crosslake had the foot of Jim Forward to the first turn, and did a lot of clever work on a good hare,, well beating his opponent. In the run to the hare Royal Artillery held an advantage oven- Donnybrook by a pood margin, and. after losing from the I turn, came back for a lucky kill. An interesting go between Captain Cook and On Guard took place in the final. In the run up Loth dogs were racing together when On Guard slinped. This let Captain' 00k first up to the hare by about, three ' lengths.
