THE ANGLICAN CHURCH
SYDNEY, June 5,
There wag a remarkable scene at St. James's Church to-night, when the Pri-: mate attended to declare his attitude concerning the recent trouble over the us© of vestments in connection with the appointment of a rector, over which a bitter newspaper correspondence has been waged for some weeks past. A great crowd sought admittance, but precautions had been taken to admit tho members and regular attendants by, ticket. . From 5 o'clock crowds sought to gain admission. Police were detailed to maintain order, but the whole proceedings were reverent. The Governor-general was present. The Primate explained his reasons for forbidding the use of vestments. Ho said that such use was contrary to the constitution of the Church, and it was not much to ask them to keep within the widely extended variety of ceremonial that was possible under the constitution,.
