BLONDEL'S CONTRIBUTION TO THE SOCIAL

Dear Dot and Little Folk, —I cannot tell you which gave roe. most pleasure—the many kind messages I received from the social or hearing that it had been so great a, success. But both combined tended to make me feel very happy. As my tribute to your enjoyment I pass on a few lines entitled; "ORPHEUS AND THE DREAMER." Orpheus came with mystic pipe To where my thoughts were fruiting Upon the hazy bough uf dreams, ■ And straightway started tooting. "Nam© your merry lilt!" quoth 1,Awakened from my musing. "My tune?" piped he. "A gala air Of happy folk's ■ own choosing; "To-night they hold >a grand levee, And there I left them, knowing ■ % My piping never would be missed. • With that he started blowing A fulsome lilt. "What's that?" "A dance! They trip the measure nicely, Tipping the moments with their toes To rhythm most precisely." Sadly mayhappen, Orpheum mused, Adding, "Howe'er entrancing The music of the gods, these folk Can give us points in dancing!" Here Echo came: "A. song," quoth he; "To me in joy they're bringing— An offering aptly to my taste Is happy children's singing. "Clearly do they throat tbeii joy And bar my own sweet measureNo note gets nearer to my heart." This spcjte he with 'great pleasure. I heard him piping to the throng Whose gladness seemed so near him;; I tapped him time upon the hearth And poked the fire to cheer him. Thus for a pleasant hour we sat, Then Orpheus made a sally Out of the boundaries of my ea* To join the grand finale. ; And ember-lighted hazy forms Of fancy folk came gleaming, Hushing the moments with their wings So I might on with dreaming. —Yours truly, BLONDE!/.
