ADDINGTON STOCK MARKET. CHRISTCHURCH, June 1. The usual weekly sale of stock was held at Addington Saleyards to-day in fane weather, there being a good atteadance ot farmers and buyers. The total yarding ol stook of all kinds showed a slight decrease, especially so in store sheep and fat lambs. There was a fairly good entry of fat sheep, and cattle and pigs remained about on an average of recent sales. There was a much smaller entry of store sheep, the bulk of which consisted of medium -sort ewes. Lambs were a good average class, and there was a few wethers penned. Competition was good, and all the lots changed ownership at fair prices. Sound-mouthed ewes and hoggets advanced about Is per head. Lambs made 9s 5d to lis Id, and medium ewe lambs to lis Bd. Four and six-tooth wethers brought up to 13s. Coarse six and eight-tooth eweß fetched lis to lis 9d, and aged 5s to 6s 6d. -•■ There was a big drop in the number of fat lambs yarded, the total entries being 6742 head, a decrease of about 3541 from last week's total. The. yarding was a representative one, and included all' classes of - lambs. Competition for various lines —o a stood deal brisker than at last sale.

and prices showed an increase of from 6d to 9cL per head. For all classes of lambs exporters were the most active operators, and took over 6000 of the lot offered. The range of prices was: Ordinary freezers, 136 to 15s 9d; tegs, to 17s 6d; light and unfinished, 9s 5d to 12 6d. There was a smaller yarding of fat sheep this week, but all classes were represented. The sale opened well, and with plenty of competition, and the demand for gcod wethers was much keener than at some of the recent sales. The range of prices was: Extra prime wethers, to 21s; prime, 16s 6d to 19s 9d;' medium, 14s to 16s; light, 6s 9d to 13s 9d; merinos, 7s 7d to 8s 9d ; prime ewes, 15s to 19s; medium, 12s 6d to 14s 6d; aged, 3s 5d to 12s.

There were 281 fat cattle yarded, the general quality being a trifle below that seen at several recent sales. In spite of this the market was 'inn, and beef advanced a point or s-o. Average lines of beef realised 18s to 235, and extra to 25s per 1001 b. Steers' made £6 17s 6d to £10; extra to £ll 2s 6d; heifers, £5 to £7; extra, £8 10s; dry cows, £4 17s 6d to £7 10s; extra, to £lO. There was an average entry of calves, and prices ranged from 4s 6d for small to £2 15s for well-grown animals.

A fair number of store cattle were panned, but the general quality was poor, the bulk very low conditioned lines from the south. The demand was naturally slack, and the passings heavy. Yearlings made to 21s, 15 to 18-months, £2 15s; two-year-olds passed at £2 12s 6d; two-year-old heifers, £3 15s; 2i-year-old steers, £3 17s 6d to £4 7s 6d; dry cows, £1 10.3 to £4 7s 6d.

The ya.rding of dairy cows consisted of a good useful class, and there was a good demand at prices from £3 10s to £8 10s; extra, to £lO 7s 6d.

There_ was a medium entry of fat pigs, which included some lines of very good quality. The demand was dull. Prices were; Choppers, 50s to 60s; large baooners, 47s 6d to 50s; smaller, 38s to 45s—equal to 4d per lb. Large porkers made 31s to 355; smaller, 25s to 30s—equivalent tq 4£d to 4£d per lb. The factors that have assisted to make for ease —full exports and moderate imports—are still in force, though the former are, of course, tapering off considerably as the season advances. Local governing- bodies are taking full advantage of the provisions of the State Guaranteed Advances Act of last session, and the applications to the Government for loans to be raised through its agency, with State guarantee, are so numerous that the Government is restricting its approval to those which are wanted to pay for works of “ necessity,” such as water supply and drainage. For those desired to provide “ luxuries,”-such as electric tram services, the applicants have to make other arrangements. The Napier Borough Council recently arranged for a loan of £54,250 from the Australian Mutual Provident Society at 4£ per cent., with a currency of 34 years. A sinking fund of per cent, is provided for, secured by a special rate on borough property. The loan is to be expended on various local works, only about one-half of which would come under the ’ ovemment definition of “ necessities.” In : the open market money is in good supply at 5 to 5g per cent, for loans on mortgage security.—Trade Review’. j INVESTMENT STOCKS June 6. j National Bank —Bayers £5 17s 6d.
