A GIRL MURDERED.
i SYDNEY, April 19. A tragedy is reported from Willoughby, I The body of the eight-year-old daughter of a labourer named Phillips has been found buried in the bush a short distance from her home, where she lived with her parents. There was a wound in the head and a deep gash in the throat, almost severing the head. The girl was reported missing on Saturday, and the police have been searching ever since. The body was discovered through a man gathering flowers. He noticed that the ground -had been recently stirred. As a result of statements made by Mrs Phillips and a servant the police have detained Phillips. j Sensational developments are expected. j April 20. J A post mortem examination of the bodyj of the girl Phillips disclosed that she had been brutally outraged before she was murdered. Phillips has been arrested and formally charged with murdering his daughter. He vehemently protested that the chaTge was a lie. j April 21 Phillips was charged with the murder of his daughter to-day. He pleaded not | guilty, and was remanded l .
