DUNEDIN D.L.F. LITERARY AND DEBATING CLUB.
Motto: "Union is Strength."
The usual weekly meeting of the above club was held on Tuesday evening, April 19, Harry being chosen to act as chairman and Indian Chief as secretary. There was a very fair attendance. The subject for debate was, " Should "Women be Placed on an Even Footing with Menj as Begards Labour?" Eoxana led for 'the affirmative side, supported by Larkspur, and Harry and Axeta led for. the negative side, supported by Indian Chief. Larkspur and Harry spoke impromptu. After .a keenly-contested debate the affirmative side was adjudged the winner by five other votes to three. A note was received from Dot stating that she •was unable to be present, and conveying greetings. A letter was also received from Lady Eisler, who is away on a holiday. The following syllabus was drawn up for the month of May: 3rd.—" Which is the More Contemptible in Your Opinion, —the Miser or the Spendthrift?" 10th. —" Should Street Cars be Allowed to Run on Sundays?" 17th.—Lecture by Eoxana on, his trip Home. .24th. —Papers on Queen Victoria (papers to contain anecdotes or anything jflj inlerest). • 31st.— Open meeting.
After this business the Chairman closed the meeting by announcing next evening as open meeting. _ INDIAN CHIEF, Acting Secretary.
