WELLINGTON, April 22. Pictures of cur mew Governor and " her Excellency," as some of the vioe-regal ladies like to be called, promise us a lover of art. There are also suggestions of extreme daintiness, originality oif ideas and dress, and love of bright surroundings and people. I wonder is this so? Talking of surroundings, the new vioe-regal residence, built on the old Mental Hospital site, within «, stone's throw of tho Wellington General Hospital (on which its back ia turned), is something rather out of the ordinary, but withal picturesque and roomy! The view f lam told, is exquisite. The spot, is rather' a breezy one, but, _of course, one can't have everything. The eiroiinids ..can be rnadiß charming, and bo doubt will be so 1 bafore long. There has been very little going on socially during the past week, and with the exception of an evening spent at His Majesty's Theatre, where the " Besses o' th' Barn " are in occupation, and a visit to the chrysanthemum and dahlia show at the Choral Hall, I have nothing to chronicle. A novel feature at the flower show was the peonv dahlia shown by Mir Henxy Brett. The seeds were sent by him to his gardener at Lake Takapuna when on a recent trip to England. The peony dahlia has some of the features of the chrysanthemum and some of the dahlia, and the combination makes a gorgeous flower. .Dx Emily Siedeberg, of Dunedin, is at present on a visit to Auckland.
