WELLINGTON WING WHISPERS

By Petek Pan. April 22. Dear Pasquin,—There is a laughing boom on at 'he Opera House. Clarke and Meynell's Comedy Company, in " The Night oi the Party," is packing that building nightly, and the audience goes home fairly tired with laughing. The farce has made a great hit, and the members of the company' have become general favourites. "What Happened to Jones" is to be revived before the season closes next week. It is stated that it is more than likely that the Oscar Aeche-Lily Brayton Shakespearean Company will pay a flying visit to New Zealand. This is good news, and it is to m hoped the tour will eventuate. I am quite, sure that Messrs Clarke and Meynell would be well repaid for their enterprise. Williamson's Grand Opera Company will commence its New Zealand tour here on May 19. It is 6tated that Madame Bel Sorel and Mks Amy Castles will be members of the comj any, besides the other principals who came from the Continent. This is glad news. Mr Richard Stewart will be general manager of the company and Mr Charles Berkeley will be touring manager. Mr Stanley Grant, general manager of Geo. Marlow's Dramatic Company, arrived from the north this week. The company opens a.t the Opera House on the 29th inst. in "Married to the Wrong Man," which is said to be a powerful drama. Mr Graii't reports excellent business in the northern city; in fact, it exceeded anticipations. . The Taylor-Carrington Company arrived from the south On Sunday, and this week have been touring the Manawatu district. So successful was Miss Amy Mui-phy's concert in the Town Hall on Monday (the concert chamber was l packed, and many had to be refused admission) that another is being given this 'evening. During the Miss Murphy has been visiting friends in the Wairarapa. Mr Alfred Hill, the well-known composer, who has been in Sydney for some time, intends returning to Wellington in June. Mr Thos. Donovan, of West's and Royal Pictures, has been again laid aside with illness, but. happily, is now recovering. It is understood that a syndicate is being formed here to establish a permanent touring picture company for New Zealand. Besides "Lady Huntworth's Experiment," which is in rehearsal by "The Mouinteba.nks," a band of clever amateurs, it is said that Miss Hardiinge-Maltby intends givinsr her pupils an opportunity to shine in "cast." Miss Amy Murpny leaves for Auckland on Monday, where she gives a concert. She will be assisted by Mr Horace Hunt and Mr Barry Coney. Mr Peter Hockley, who is. well known in local and Christchurch musical circles, and who has ■ been ahsant in England and Australia for some time, has returned here. Mr Hockley. now represents an English commercial house. Mr Leo. Chateau is busy rehearsing the Mountebanks in "Lady Huntworth's Experiment." The allotment of parts has been completed, and the following is the cast : LADY HUNTWORTH'S EXPERIMENT. A Comedy by R. C. Carton. Captain Dorraston Mr F. Lamperi Mr Pillenger Mr Porter Mr Thorsby ..
