AUCKLAND, April 20. A fire occurred in Customs street,-in the city, to-night, the premises of Charles Bailey, jun. (boatbuilder), and Alf. Bailey (blacksmith), and their stock being destroyed, while the premises of C. P. Murdoch (wood joiner) were damaged.. Among the stock destroyed in Charles Bailey's premises were several boats, principally launches. He estimates his loss at over £2OOO, but has policies in the New Zealand Insurance Ccfnpany's office fc|r £IOOO. Alf. Bailey's loss is estimated at £3OO. NEW PLYMOUTH, April 25A fire broke out about 11.30 on Saturday night in Deare's book shop, in the block recently purchased by Hallenstein Bros., right in the centre of the town. A high wind was blowing, and the fire obtained a good hold, but was suppressed in 20 minutes. Hallenstein's insurances-were £2IOO on the building and £ISOO on the stock,' in various offices. Deare's stock was insured for £I3OO. Reynolds and Co.'s (bicycle dealers) for £IOOO, and the New Plymouth Club's furniture .upstairs for £325. Deare's estimate of his loss is between £IOOO and £I3OO, the club's £SO. Reynolds's and Hallenstein's stocks were damaged by water, but no estimate can yet be formed, though it will probably be heavy. The damage to the buildings will be covered by £2OO or-£3OO. On Friday a farmer named Henderson, on the Albert road, lost his cowshed, trapshed, and 25 tons of hay by fire. His property was insured for £IOO in the State office. THREE WHEAT STACKS BURNED. (From Our Own Correspondent.) TUAPEKA WEST, April 25. -A fire broke out yesterday, when a threshing mill was at work on Mr Dalziel's wheat and three stacks were destroyed. One had been threshed, and yielded about 100 bags, which were saved. The other two were totally burnt. They. were expected to yield 100 bags each. The fire was first noticed on the top of the stack on which the men were forking. There were no insurances. Much sympathy is felt for Mr Dalziel, the owner. The mill and engine were saved.
