A resident of Methven writes to the Ash'< burton Guardian stating that Methven i« in a Vidry lawless and disorderly state "at present. On Friday and Saturday night*. some of the business people of Methven, who live on one of the main roads in tha township, could not go to sleep until afte* 12 o'clock owing to the noise and obscene langufvge made use of by gangs of young men. On Saturday night last Mr E. Mahood had his shop window smashed to atoms, empty beer bottles having been thrown through it. JEn short, it is not safa for women or children to go out of door* after dark. It is admitted by everybody that during the last 20 years Methven has ; not been in a_ worse state. If the police do j not take Mine steps to bring about an j alten lion of this state of affairs, the oonx I sequences will be serious.
