DUNEDIN HOSPITAL GUILD.

The following is a precis or bh* annual report of the abo ve guild : The eighteenth year of wort having been brought to a close, your committee is glad to report that year by year the guild maintains its popularity, and" that all matters connected therewith are in a satisfactory position. The subscribers during the last year have numbered 165. and we commence this season's work with a credit balance of £24 14s 2d. Although during the past session the 13 sewing meetings were—owing to a variety yf causes—not so well attended as usual, the average ate tendance falling from 51 to 42, still a largenumber of articles were sent to the Hospital. Year by year the Dunedin Hospital is growing in size and importance, and the number of, patients admitted is constantly .increasing, so,that if we are to keep pace with its requirements our membership should also' continually expand. This year we have to mention with greai regret the loss through death of no less than of our members —Mrs M'Neil, Mr? John Stephenson, Mrs Edmond, Mrs Chapman, and Miss Laing. The lattei for manv years _ had been a most regular attendant at the sewing meetings, and her presence will be greatly missed. The articles sent to the Hospital this year comprised 33 men's vests, 19 men's jackets, six pyjama suits, 12 men's dressing-gowns, 22 pairs sock?, 31 women's vests, 17 women's jackets, five women's dressing gowns, 12 women's nightdresses, 24 children's vests, two children's jackets, 10 children's dressing-gowns, 13 children's nightdresses, three dozen pairs children's stockings, and one boy's shirt—a total *of 243 articles. At the last annual meeting it war proposed, and agreed to, that a sum of £5, drawn from the guild funds, should be given to the First Church Deacons' Court for the!purpose of assisting in the renovation of the First Church Hall, of whVh th« guild has the use for. the sewing meetings. This sum was supplemented by subscrip-" tions from * the . working members of th» guild, so altogether £lO was forwarded As usual, some small gifts from the com- * mittee were seat to the Hospital for distribution on Christmas Day. In conclusion, the committee wishes to renew its thanks to all the friends who so kindly assisted in various ways, and especially to his Worship the Mayor and the First Church Deacons' Court for the use of the rooms in which the meetings are held, to the Hon. J. B. Callan for his continued kindness In auditing the accounts, and to those ladies who so ably •each'aiternoon superintended the tea. ,', ;." ,
