ANGLO-AUSTRALIAN TRADE

PERTH, April 21. Mr Hamilton Wickes, the British Board of Trade Commissioner, addressed the local Chamber of Commerce on BritishAustralian trade, embodying the conclusions he had arrived! at after .18 months' investigations. He believes that the equal distribution of wealth in Australia is unparalleled in the woi'ld. Outside of 40 or 50 British houses which have established their own businesses here, the vast bulk of British manufacturers relied upon Australian distributing houses. The Australian trade in soft goods and metals was entirely in British hands. With regard to Australian distribution and the value of goods the buyer did l not care about their value as long as their price was low. He had recommended British manufacturers to send out experts to learn for themselves something about the markets. Those experts should examine the trade and stocks in Australia, and then advise their principals at Home.
