Monday Evening. Miss M'Lean gave a small bridge party at her residence, "Hazelwood." on Monday evening to bid farewell tc Mrs MacGowar. On Wednesday afternoon a great number of friends assembled at the Dunedin Railway Station to say good-bye to Mrs MacGowan and Miss C. MacGowan, Ttfho left for Wellington en route for England on that day. On Friday evening Mrs Carr gave a small bridge party at her residence, Heriot row, for Miss Wright, who is at present staying with her. On the same evening the Misses Reynolds gave a dinner party at their residence, Lees street, in honour of their cousin, Miss Pinkerton, Canada, who is at present staying with them. Mrs Royse is visiting hei daughter (Mrs Watson) at Invercargill; Judge and Mrs Williams left]for Welling ton last Thursday. Miss Dora Williams went north on Tuesday for a tour round the North Island. Mrs C. Rattray and family have gone to Waikouaiti. Miss Neill also left for Waikouaiti on Saturday. Rev. Dr Waddell has left on his annual holiday to Temuka for the fishing. Mrs and Miss Waddell have gone to- Waikouaiti for a few weeks. INVERCARGILL-, March 21. Last Monday Mts Miles (Bank of Australasia) gave a small afternoon tea for Mrs St. Paul, Napier, who formerly resided in this town, thus affording Mrs S.k Paul an opportunity of meeting many old friends. On Tuesday Miss A. Gardner, Spey street, gave a - very enjoyable progressive euchre party. The first prizes were won by Mrs Clere and Mr White. On Wednesday the formal opening of the golf season took place, when several mixedi foursomes were played, Mrs Prain and Mr Cochrane being the winners. The weather was, unfortunately, most unpropitious, audi few but actual players attended. On the same afternoon a team of tennis players from the Gore Tennis Club came down to Invercargill to play a team frora the Invercargill Club, but owing to the wet weather the match was not played. On Friday Miss Stocker gave a small musical evening at the Vicarage for Miss G. Willams (Dunedin). Mrs Royse (Dunedin) is visiting Mrs J. E. Watson, Trafalgar. Mrs P. The Navy League ball, which took place in the Town Hall last Tuesday evening, was a brilliant success. The decorations were very naval, and consequently most effective. Admiral Sir Richard Poore and his officers were met and welcomed by the officials ot the ball. An embroidered veil was worn, and the - bouquet was composed of lilies, roses, and maiden-hair ferns.
