HAWKE'S BAY. The Municipal Theatre at Waipawa, -Kdth seating accommodation for 1000 persons, was formally opened by the Mayor on the 15th. The Leather-rubber Company has accented a tender for £989 for the erection of'a factory, to be completed by the end of May. WELLINGTON. Mr Radcliffe, a settler in the vicinity of Jerusalem, reports that typhoid has broken out in the Maori pa at Jerusalem. Six cases have occurred up to the present, and several deaths have taken place. Mr Radcliffe says that the Native doctor was there a week ago, but so far nothing has been done .to check the disease. The annual meeting of th New Zealand Anti-opium Association was held on the 15th. An address was given by Mr "Young Liang Hwang,. Chinese. Consul, pointing out the evils, of the opium traffic. A resolution was adopted condemning the trade.
