LONDON, March 15. Captain Scott's tests of his motor sledges in Norway gave successful results. Each pulled a load of 19cwt on the snow. March 19. Sir E. Shackleton is planning a purely scientific and geographical expedition towards the end of 1911. He is not competing with Captain Scott. Sir E. Shaekleton'e bases will be at Cape Adair and Adeliland. and he will N explore between Cape Adair and. Gaussborg. His- staff will' include some old companions, one of whom will be Mr Pduglas Mawson (Sydney), who will be scientific director. . Financial support has already been promised. March 20. Great efforts are being made in Scotland to raise funds for Dr Bruce's Antarctic expedition. BERLIN, March 18. Lieutenant Filchner's expedition for the Antarctic will leave Germany in th© Bummer of 1-911. SYDNEY, March 21. Professor David considers that the area •which Sir E. Shackleton proposes "to explore offers' great 'possibilities from geographical and general scientific aspects. Where there is the possibility of another visit being paid to the Magnetic Pole, the collection of information regarding which will be of much importance not only to science but also to navigation, Mr' Mawson will be an ideal scientific director.
