Speaking at a farewell gathering Mr Broome, who has been recently appointed general manager of the Victorian State mines, said the Westport-Stockton Company, in topping 1000 tons for a day's output, had probably established a record for a mine in New Zealand, and even Australasia, as the mine had been open for less than 18 months. The work had been laid out so that at a small cost the output could be doubled, and he understood that the directors contemplated making the additions necessary to achieve that end.
