NAVY LEAGUE: OTAGO BRANCH.

! The regular meeting of the committee of the above was held on Friday afternoon I at the Education Board office, when the fol- | lowing were present :—Messrs R. Chisholm (in the chair), James Alien, M.P., W D Stewart, W. A. Moore, P. Govert J.' A Johnstone, G. R. Ritchie, W. F. Edrnond, Colin Macandrew. J. Jeffery, F. Waited and W. J. Morrell. i The sum of £lB 13s had been collected since the last report. The bank balance , (credit) is £l6l 3s 2d. The Finance Comj mittee had approved the following accounts p for payment :—Moller and Sons (engraving) ] £2 13s, Coulls, Culling and Co 15s, Navy League Annual £3 15s. Circular letters have been sent to the various girls' schools I and colleges and to the boys' high and I primary schools, and there is reason to believe that in most, if not all, of these i branches will be established. The secretary has arranged to visit the schools and address the pupils on the objects and work of the league, with a view to furthering its effectiveness. This week the Caversham and Albany Street Schools have Been visited. Mr Percivai . Fenwick. of St. Clair, has placed in the secretary's charge a £5 5s trophy, consisting of a plate made of copper taken from Nelson'3 .famous ship, the " Victory," the genuineness of the copper being guaranteed by his Majestv's initials, " E.R.," engraved thereon. The plate is offered for competition amoag the I girls' schools and colleges on, the samo. conditions as those for the Fenwick Shield. —A vote of thanks was passed to Mr Fen- , wick for his gift. I The Home office advised that it has decided to publish a quarterly supplement to the Navy, adapted to the needs of school children, and that supplies will be forwarded to the secretary for distribution among those schools having branches.—The .information was received with satisfaction. the league having- lono; advocated the issue of some such publication. A copy of Jane's " World's Fighting Shios " has been sent to the Officers' Club. arid of the Navy League Annual to the Free Library. Lantern lectures have been, arranged to ba (riven -at the Clair and Leith Valley Schools. ~ Correspondence from the secretaries of the Wellineton and Christchurch Branches, from the Victoria League, the Rev. R. J. i Yarde-Buller (Warden of Navy House. J Chatham), and Colonel Kirkpatriek was i received, and in the cose of the Victoria j League the Schools Sub-committee was asked to arrange for a conference, with p. view to avoid any possible overlapping of
