MEMORY.

Mysterious reflected beam of mirrored light, Shining at will upon the treasures of old Time! Thou art a subtle power possessed of mystic sight, Revealing trodden paths in a far distant clime. Imprisoned in the mind vibrations sleep, To wake at will the visionary past— To sound again the voices from the deep Of long ago—echoes that ever last! Morn, noon, and night the moving pictures pass Adown the devious maze of days gone by; Unrealised their power until we gaze Upon the scenes brought back from far away. Bewildering and magical the charm, Imprisoned in the soul—to be set free At any time, and traverse arm in arm With mourners down the track of Destiny! Cold faces smile, stilled voices speak again— Always are near, guiding, encouraging The weary way along thro' sorrows, pain. To better things with silent beckoning. Mayhap regrets o'ercome and sorrows keen Scourge deep the flesh at times from Bate's abyss! Knocks ceaseless at the heart "What might have been?" Instead of living dreams of bitterness. Ah! mingled with our tears some joys and smiles Look out to cheer. Thus, flowers along the track, If but a few, illume a waste of miles— We love them still, are glad to bring them back! Dear Memory! Thy colourings upon life's shroud, Some tinted brigbt and luring, some like stains of grey, • • >.■. Have each and all the work to do 'mongst vain and proud, Of teachers training all to purer life each day. Then let us each and all dwell 'midst thy charms, content, E'en if oiir loved ideals sleep silent 'neath the sod, Knowing that bygone loves are but experience, meant To perfect character more pleasing to our God! —H A COBBLEDICK
