THE OUTPUT OF COAL.

SHORTAGE OF STEAMERS. WESTPORT, March 3. The bins at the coal mines at the Westport and Westport-Stockton and at the Seddonville' State mine are full, or almost full, of coal, with orders in abundance, but there are practically no boats available to take the coal away._ The State mine was idle to-day, and it is expected it will also be idle to-morrow. The impression prevails here that the failure to send sufficient colliers to Westport is intended to create the old false impression that the New Zealand mines cannot supply the demands of the Dominion and so divert trade again to Newcastle. Vigorous efforts, it is stated, are likely to be made to induce the Government to take up the sea carriage of coal.
