AUCKLAND ELECTRICAL WORKS.
AUCKLAND, January 20. The City Council met to-night in committee to' consider the joint reports of Messrs A. Wyllie (Auckland city electrical engineer) and Stuart Richardson (Wellington city electrical engineer) upon the proposed scheme far the new electrical works. The committee decided to recommend to the council the adoption of the scheme as formulated by Mr Wyllie and approved by Mr Richardson. This scheme involves an expenditure of £215,000, bringing the total cost of the Auckland electrical works up to £290,000. The new proposal is to erect and equip an up-to-date power station on the northern portion of the Freezing Company's reclamation near the railway wharf. provision is made in the estimate,; (£215,000) for future extensions, so that the new plant may be capable of supplying electrical power for Greater Auckland. It is estimated that from 1912 the scheme, if pur into immediate operation, will be not only self-supporting, but will show ample balances of profit. The whole matter will come before the council at its ordinary meeting next Thursday night, and the scheme having been approved in open meeting, as it doubtless will be, the ratepayers will be asked to sanction a loan to cover the estimated cost.
